Sooner Late Models set for Salina Highbanks on Saturday



John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (June 20, 2023) - The Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series presented by Hayden Ross Motorsports Foundation will make its first ever visit to the Salina Highbanks Speedway on Saturday.

Salina Highbanks Speedway is a premier 3/8’s mile facility which includes the Finish Line restaurant overlooking the speedway and allows fans to watch races while enjoying a good meal.

Three-time winner Brett Hansen of Ft. Gibson leads the points chase holding a slim lead over 14-year old rookie Eli Ross of Muskogee. Ross has yet to pick up a series victory, but has logged four top five finishes in seven events. Mounds competitor Richard Shepler sits in third ahead of Dakota Dillinger of Hutchinson, Kansas in fourth and Eric Brill of Choctaw in fifth.

Four-time champion Kip Hughes of Enid has four wins this season winning the last event on June 10 at 81 Speedway.

Gates open Saturday at 3 p.m., grandstands at 5, hot laps hit the track at 6:30 followed by racing at 7.

Salina Highbanks Speedway is located 10 miles east of Pryor on highway 20.

Hayden Ross Motorsports Foundation

Hayden Ross Motorsports Foundation goal is to help grow both high school, trade school and college programs to start and or develop a motorsports program, club, or organizations at their school as well as individual motorsports programs. HRMF will provide financial grants, equipment, expertise, scholarships, and educational opportunities for these organizations and individuals. This program will allow students to overcome the hurdle of entering motorsports due to the high costs and specialized experience needed to get started. This program will allow these students the opportunity to be part of a team with one overall goal of success on the track, including budgeting, marketing, mechanical skills, logistics, and team building efforts. All while honoring the life lost to early of Hayden Diesel Ross, #forever66.

Sooner Late Model Series

The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansa
