John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (September 12, 2023) - With a double feature weekend in the rearview mirror the Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series travels to Kansas on Saturday for a return visit to 81 Speedway.
Last weekend a August 12 make-up feature was run prior to the regular scheduled Sooner Series event at Enid Speedway and series points leader Brett Hansen and Kansas racer Darren Moses logged victories.
It will be anybodies race when the late models hit the 81 Speedway 3/8’s mile oval Saturday. In a July 10 visit to 81 four-time champion Kip Hughes topped a 24-car field. In 2022 Hansen and Wichita driver Dan Smith picked up victories.
Hansen, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma leads the Sooner Series points race with six victories after 17 events. Despite no wins on the season Richard Shepler has been a picture of consistency posting 14 top 10 finishes to hold down second in points. Joseph Gorby of Bartlesville sits in third with two victories, and Eli Ross and Eric Brill are fourth and fifth respectively.
Pits open at 3 p.m., grandstands at 5. Hot laps are scheduled for 6 followed by racing at 7.

Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas.
