Sooner Late Models combine with Southern Tour Late Models this weekend

by John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (July 5, 2021) - A double header weekend of racing is on tap when the Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series combines forces with the Southern Tour Late Model Series for a pair of races in Texas.

Friday the two sanctioning bodies meet at Boyd Raceway then travel to Abilene Speedway on Saturday.

It will be the second time this season the two sanctioning bodies have met. On May 14 Zach Nickell won his first Sooner Series feature at West Texas Raceway, and on May 15 Southern Tour Series competitor Colton Horner evened the score with a victory at Route 66 Motor Speedway.

Coming into the weekend Hayden Ross of Muskogee, Okla. is leading the CWT Sooner Series point standings by just 70 points over three-time defending champion Kip Hughes of Enid. The points lead is even slimmer in the Southern Tour points race. Cody Leonard of Sinton, Texas leads Beau Bernard of Spring, Texas by just 8 points.

About Sooner Late Model Series

The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
