Hughes takes advantage at Thunderbird for 8th victory

by John Rittenoure - MUSKOGEE, Okla. (September 24, 2021) - With a little help from a restart, Kip Hughes got a chance at the lead and he took advantage to win the Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series feature Friday at Thunderbird Speedway.

Dustin Allen came from second row outside and battled his way into the early lead on the Muskogee half-mile. Allen built up a large lead and it might have been enough had the caution not waved.

Hughes had worked his way from 7th starting into second and Allen now within reach, Hughes was able to take the lead away and pick up his 8th victory of the season. Kaleb Roach passed Allen for second leaving Allen with a third place finish. Title contender Hayden Ross was fourth and Cory Green rounded out the top five.

The CWT Sooner Late Model Series heads to Arkansas on Saturday for a stop at Crawford County Speedway.

About Sooner Late Model Series

The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
