Caney Valley Speedway picks up Saturday Monett date

John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (July 17, 2023) - The Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series presented by Hayden Ross Motorsports Foundation is racing this Saturday at Caney Valley Speedway.

Monett Raceway was originally scheduled to host the Sooner Series on Saturday, but the race was canceled Monday morning. Caney Valley Speedway has picked up the date.

The booking might be coming at a good time for Joseph Gorby. Gorby is very familiar with the Caney quarter-mile and comes into the race with a victory and a second place finish in the last two Sooner shows.

Brett Hansen continues to lead the points race after winning his fourth main event of the season last Saturday at Longdale Speedway. Hansen leads rookie Eli Ross in the points chase followed by Richard Shepler and Gorby who moved into fourth after his second place Longdale finish. Ron Brown of Oklahoma City rounds out the top five.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday with hot laps set for 7 and racing at 7:30.

Sooner Late Model Series

The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas
