Terry Johnson passes away


Late model racer Terry Johnson, age 53, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at his home in Piedmont, OK. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Revival for Christ Club in Moore, OK, Pastor Christopher Colley officiating.

Johnson began racing in 2005, winning rookie of the year. Over the years Johnson raced modifieds, sport mods and late models. In 2014, Terry won the championship at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore.


Last season Johnson raced five times with the Sooner Late Model Series picking up one top five and three top ten finishes. Johnson finished 17th in points.

He was united in marriage to Christine "Tina" Vail on March 2, 1983. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Johnson; paternal grandparents, Cecil and Hazel Johnson, of Broken Bow, OK; maternal grandparents, Oliver John and Lillian, of Union City, CA; and father- and mother-in-law, Elmer and Joann Vail, of Del City.


Terry is survived by his loving wife, Christine "Tina" Johnson; son, Terry Lee Johnson II and wife Nikki; daughter, Tiffany Brown and husband Kyle; and seven grandchildren, Sarah, Turner, Ashton, Nicholas, Tristen, Jordan and Kinsley (Sissy); all of Piedmont, OK; his mother, Donna Johnson; brothers, Donnie Johnson and wife Mary and Rodney Johnson and wife Pam; a sister, Karen Brown and husband Carl; sisters-in-law, Regina and Angela Vail; two aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Johnson will truly be missed by everyone connected with the Sooner Late Model Series. RIP Terry.
