Sooner Series to headline Enid Speedway opener
By John Rittenoure - ENID, Okla. (June 1, 2020) - What seems like an eternity has finally come to an end as the 2020 racing season is about to get underway with the Twister Nationals at Enid Speedway on Saturday.
The season was scheduled to start on March 28 until the COVID-19 pandemic reared its ugly head and brought the nation to its knees. Racing was not allowed at the fairgrounds during, but with the month of June arriving the all-clear has been given, with social distancing in mind, and racing can now resume.
That is good news for the Sooner Late Model Series which will finally get to race closer to home after spending the past weekend racing in Texas.
Texas drivers dominated the past weekend in the season opener on Friday at Monarch Motor Speedway in Wichita Falls and again the next night at Abilene Speedway. Bo Day of Greenville, Texas won both nights with Austin Theiss running second in each event. The highest finishing Sooner Series competitor was defending champion Kip Hughes who finished third at Abilene after finishing eighth at Monarch.
Saturday’s program will consist of Sooner Late Models racing in their third point show of the season, Modifieds, Sport Modifieds, Pure Stocks and the new Hot Shot division.
Racing will begin at 7 p.m. with grandstands opening at 5.
