Points race heats up entering Friday’s Sooner Late Model event at Southern Oklahoma Speedway

By John Rittenoure, TULSA, Okla. (September 12, 2017) - A new winner emerged in Sooner Late Model Series action last Saturday at Enid Speedway. Joseph Gorby chased down early leader Adam Popp and passed him with nine laps remaining to top a 19-car field on the high-banked 3/8’s mile oval.

However there is little time to reflect on last weeks performances as the Sooner Late Models return to the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore for the final time on Friday night.

Series points leader Jay Sale is hoping for a better outcome at Ardmore after a crash in hot laps forced Sale to sit out the night. He could only watch as the series point contenders picked up valuable points in the championship chase.

Jason Redman had the best chance to benefit from Sale’s misfortune and started the night as if he was going to take advantage. Redman won his heat and was running a strong second got Popp in the feature when he slowed on the backstretch midway through the race. Redman was pushed to the pits and credited with a 14th place finish. That was still enough to pull Redman within 75 points of Sale going into the Ardmore race.

The points battle at Southern Oklahoma Speedway begins Friday at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. Southern Oklahoma Speedway is located on the south side of Ardmore. Take I-35 exit 29, go east on Hwy 70 for 0.7 miles then south on Hwy 77 for two miles.
