Sooner Late Models wrap up season Oct. 28 at Enid

by John Rittenoure, TULSA, Okla. (October 21, 2017) - Points leader Jason Redman will have to survive two nights of racing to lock up his first Sooner Late Model Series championship.

What was suppose to be a double header weekend with a race at Red Dirt Raceway on Friday and Enid Speedway on Sunday changed on Saturday morning. A forecast of rain has forced Saturday's season ending show to be postponed to Saturday, October 28.

Redman held an 80 point lead over Jay Sale and a 145 point lead over third place Steven Hawkins going into the program at Red Dirt Raceway. Sale did not make the last show due to a concussion suffered Sept. 9 at Enid and Hawkins has missed one SLMS show but still has an opportunity to content for the title.

On Friday Redman managed a 10th place finish keeping him in the points lead going into next weekends re-scheduled race.

Defending champion Mark Harrison won the first two visits to the Garfield County Fairgrounds 3/8’s mile oval on May 6 and July 8. Joseph Gorby ended Harrison’s streak with a victory there on Sept. 9. However Harrison did run fourth.

Gates open at Enid at 2 p.m. with racing getting underway at 6.

Enid Speedway is located at the Garfield County Fairgrounds, 2.5 miles north of US 412 on US 81.
